Dear Editor, ? ? The latest broadside of letters to the March 25 Le Provocateur, the most recent escalation of the conflict over homosexuality and diversity generally within that paper's pages, compels me to write this. Given the (lack of) effect these letters usually have on men's opinions, I could just as well have left the issue be.

In a recent letter to the editor here I made a brief and unremarkable argument reaffirming the universal understanding of mankind that marriage is the union of the sexes as recognized by law. It was an argument based on common sense. I said that the effort of academic elites and their disciples to obscure this ancient understanding and to remove reference to the duality of the sexes from our laws concerning marriage represents a breathtaking abandonment of common sense.

Mistakes are a big part of every day life, at least my every day life. Whether it's forgetting my wallet, cutting someone off in traffic or sleeping with my mouth open, I am no slouch when it comes to screwing things up. Now, most of these screw-ups are trivial at best, normally I just shrug and keep rolling along.

38 days to graduation. The lower the number gets, the more nerve-wracking it is. Even though there are countless occasions where I feel overwhelmed and stressed out, plenty of people have told me to take some time to chill out and relax; because sooner rather than later it will all be over, and I'm going to miss it more than I may realize now.

The following statement appeared in this paper (signed by several faculty members):
We are sorry that, in the context of the good intentions of praying for President Obama and his administration, the website cited in the recent calls to pray the rosary included references to the idea that homosexual marriage is an intrinsic evil.

As I stared at the picture of myself in a tank top and my mother's zebra skirt with my parents' eyes glaring into my back, I knew it was over. I can still feel the tears running down my cheeks as my mother told me that she had stumbled upon my MySpace page, something I was forbidden to possess at sixteen years old.

I do not want to grow up. As many positions I have applied for, for as many times that I have updated my cover letter or revised my resume, I have no real desire for an adult life style. As so many of us have already parlayed our ways into the midst of paraprofessional, I think many seniors have enough experience under their belts to openly say, "I do not want to be an adult.

"Big Brother is watching," remarked one student when the topic of cameras being installed in the entrances of certain dorms on the Assumption College campus came up in a casual conversation recently. The news that the College is thinking of installing cameras inside a handful of dorms for next year has quickly become a hot topic of conversation among many students around the school and has jokingly been referred to as CameraGate, in honor of Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots "SpyGate" drama.

This month the Reach Out Center has a one shot April 17-19 called, Rebuilding Together Worcester. Volunteers choose at least one day of the weekend to work for six hours at a site. There are two shifts per day, and a free, delicious lunch is given to every volunteer, along with a free t-shirt.

Another year is almost over, and I feel like this is a great time for reflection. I am currently a junior and I am kind of surprised that I have little more than a year left at Assumption. In college I have learned many valuable lessons about myself, other people and how the world works so that I will be prepared for the next phase in my life.

It's the third Monday of March as I walk into the chapel at 8:55 p.m. for one of my favorite Campus Ministry programs, Praise and Worship. Nancy Small welcomes me as I walk in and hands me a packet containing the night's songs. I slide into a pew by myself and leaf through the packet.

Being that this is my second to last column as SGA President I intend to recognize some of the accomplishments of this 2008-2009 academic year and save for the last column a heaping helping of advice and ever-astute words from yours truly. Though, a forewarning, I would do no such thing as to claim that those words might possess inert worth, but I will certainly do what I can.
