It's the third Monday of March as I walk into the chapel at 8:55 p.m. for one of my favorite Campus Ministry programs, Praise and Worship. Nancy Small welcomes me as I walk in and hands me a packet containing the night's songs. I slide into a pew by myself and leaf through the packet. I smile to myself as I notice that some of the songs included are ones I frequently listen to on my IPod. Rachel Dalo graciously thanks us for coming to the service and explains the theme of that particular week. She invites us to experience the service, however, we feel comfortable, whether that be singing along with the guitarist or reflecting in silence. Praise and Worship is broken between a variety of meditative praise and worship songs, sung either by Doug Reilly on guitar or played on a CD and correlates scripture readings. The service lasts for just about a half an hour, but there's no doubt that I leave feeling refreshed and renewed.

For me, attending praise and worship is a time for me to sing to God and to reflect on my relationship with Him. I love to sing in such a relaxed gathering and have time to relax after a hectic Monday. If one hears the words "praise and worship service," they may think of a big group of people raising their arms to the heavens. While this may occur at other Christian Praise and Worship services, Praise and Worship at Assumption is much more meditative and reflective. It can be a time to reflect on your week, relationships that may need repair, struggles that are persisting, or simply a time to just refresh before a busy school week begins. Best of all, it's a time to share in reflective quiet in the most beautiful place Assumption has to offer. As the semester comes to an end, don't miss this unique opportunity for reflection. The next Praise and Worship service will be held on Monday April 20 at 9 p.m. in the chapel with the theme of "Faith Through Challenges" and Monday May 4, same time, same place, focusing on the theme of "Moving Forward."
