Another year is almost over, and I feel like this is a great time for reflection. I am currently a junior and I am kind of surprised that I have little more than a year left at Assumption. In college I have learned many valuable lessons about myself, other people and how the world works so that I will be prepared for the next phase in my life. I am thankful that I can look to the future with such confidence because I know that everyone has different experiences and not everyone feels the same way as I do. I do know what played a huge role in me feeling this way, and that was getting involved on campus. Being involved with a student-run organization on campus is one of the best things to do to enhance your time spent at college.

I chose to get involved with the ALANA Network towards the end of my freshman year. Just like many freshmen I had no idea what I wanted to do, and I was just excited to be out of my parents' house. While being in ALANA, I have had some of the greatest learning experiences in my life. Starting out as a general member, one of the highlights of my year was participating in the Fashion Show during the spring of '07. I had a great time; that was the first time I was a part of a major production. It was something new that I tried and I ended up enjoying. Later on that semester I decided to run for the position of treasurer on the Executive Board, I ended up winning in the election and becoming more involved in ALANA.

I learned a great deal more being apart of the Executive Board. Having this position as a leader definitely encouraged me to sharpen my time management and organizational skills. These are necessary tools that will benefit me before and after I have to secure a job when it's my time to leave college. Having an executive position also allowed me to develop my written and verbal communication skills through various activities such as: planning and organizing events, holding meetings and keeping general members updated. I am an organizational communication major, but being able to communicate effectively is another valuable skill that will help anyone with any major going into any professional field.
